Lululemon The Reversible Yoga Mat Review

The Mat Will Be Good For..

  1. People with sweaty palms like me
  2. People who just plain sweats a lot – also like me
  3. People who are practicing Bikram or Hot yoga
  4. People who are in need of good cushion for wrist, knees and elbows. As they are 5mm thick, the cushion is good enough for comfort, but not too soft to affect your balance.

The Pros

1. It has two different sides that you can use.

One side, which is the shinier one, has better grip than the other. I usually tend to use the stickier one during normal practice cause I just hate to slide around – especially during downward dog. It’s just uncomfortable. & this mat savessss my practice.

I will usually use the other side whenever I’m meditating or practicing on my split or doing hip openers flow. This is just because I want my feet to be able to glide and let the gravity does its job better. I can’t really do this with the stickier one, cause your legs won’t be able to move gracefully when doing splits. This is just my opinion – I’m not that flexible yet, so I still have to work on my splits 🙂

2. It’s durable.

I’ve been using it for some time now, every day & I haven’t seen any sign of wear yet. Which is goood.

3. Good cushioning for knees and wrist.

Again, with my misaligned hips and shoulders, the position on my wrists and knees are not similar between left and right. And most of the time I need some cushioning for my right wrist and my left knee & this mat gives me enough cushion that I didn’t feel the need to put any extra support like towels etc.

4. It prevents any growth of mold bacteria and fungi.

So, based on their website, they said that they have/put antimicrobial additives for the mat to prevent any bacteria growth. To be honest, they kinda need to do that since the mat absorbs sweat.

5. Will stick to the ground.

One thing that I cannot stand with yoga mats is when they tend to move around when you’re doing your yoga practice. It’s just, annoying. When you’re doing yoga, you don’t wanna focus on your moving mat, and having to think on how to make it stop moving around. And that’s one of the best things with this mat – it won’t budge. At all. & I love it!

6. Variety of colors to choose from.

It took me quite some time to finally come to the decision of choosing the color of my yoga mat. They have sooooo many choices of designs and colors!

7. Can use both during dry & wet classes.

You can use this for your normal practice, as well as during a hot yoga class.

& The Cons

1. It’s heavy.

Okay, one thing you should know about this mat, is that it’s very heavy. Definitely not suitable for any traveling. If you usually bring your own yoga mat to yoga class & you don’t drive, (though this might be good for your biceps to carry around) it can get a little inconvenient.

They have another model which is suitable for traveling at 1.5mm, but you will have to forget about having a good cushion.

2. Expensive.

This reversible yoga mat can be quite pricey for some. But if you know you’re going to benefit from all of its pros, I’d say invest in this mat.

3. Gets dirty easily.

My mat is still in good condition, knowing that I practice yoga almost every single day on my mat. BUT, the stickier side of the mat can collect dust/hair very easily. Since the mat is super sticky (not in a bad way), it can be quite tough to clean, so what I like to do is to get those cleaning paper that you usually use to collect hair (is it just me?), spray the mat with some warm water and just run through the mat to collect any hair or dust.

4. The plastic smell.

The mat will have that plastic, factory-ish smell when first opened. Though it will go away with use, it still takes some time for the smell to fully go away.

5. Scratch quite easily.

I can see those tiny scratches on the mat….

So.. Should You Get One?

Lululemon The Reversible Yoga Mat Review

If you’re someone who is in the category of people with sweaty palms, who sweat a lot, who is in need of good cushion and practicing hot yoga, I would highly recommend this mat because it serves its purpose.

Yes, it can be quite pricey but treat it as an investment for your yoga practice, and yourself. I can definitely feel the difference when I change to this Lululemon The Reversible Yoga mat from my old one. It gives me better confidence when practicing yoga and overall feels a lot more excited when I step onto my mat, knowing my sweaty palms won’t be a problem 🙂

If you’re not keen on the 5mm, they also have it in different thickness:- 3mm and 1.5mm travel mat. You can check their websites to see the different width and length of the mat to suit everyone’s needs.

If you have tried this mat, please let me know what you think of them? Do you love it as much as I or it’s not really your top picks? & if you haven’t tried this mat, are you going to consider Lululemon’s yoga mat in the future?

    Hello Wina,

I started practicing yoga about 3 months ago to assist in improving my weight lifting form. Yes I know that many might lauhh at this but the results are there and flexibility is the main reason why many crossfitters have bad form.

One thing I learnt really quickly was that a good quality mat is essentially to stop you sliding or falling over. I have had many of those incidents and it is really not pretty. In my opinion, there is no substitute for good quality products and this is one of those essentials.

      Hi Richard,

Yoga is actually very good for body builders and people who are used to lift weight, as it can give the muscle the stretching and flexibility that you guys don’t usually have in the lifting weight routine. I’m so glad that you take up yoga to assist your form 🙂

Yes, there’s no substitute for good quality products!

I wish you all the success in your weight lifting as well as yoga journey 🙂

      Namaste.

Hi Wina – thanks for sharing this great product review. I have only been doing yoga for about a year now, having had it suggested that it would help me with my back pain (which it does). Anyway, I have been using the mats provided by the class, and to be honest, they’re not that great, pretty well worn. It’s about time I treated myself to my own, and this looks as though it would fit the bill. The weight of it might be a problem, as I usually walk to my class, but overall it’s definitely on my list to consider purchasing. All the best, Diane

Hi Diane, I’m someone who is a bit of OCD when it comes to my tools and props, and I’d definitely recommend you to get one that suits you best too! 🙂

And since this mat is anti-bacterial, it’s very good for you to keep using it.

You can opt for the travel size one, if you’d like.

      Hope this review helped! 🙂

      Namaste.
